CAPACITY-BUILDING ACTIVITIES FOR THE PROMOTION OF SYNERGY ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE BASEL, ROTTERDAM AND STOCKHOLM CONVENTIONS

Implementation terms

The target:

Increase the efficiency and coordination of measures aimed at preventing pollution of the environment.

Goals:

The synergistic approach will enhance the effectiveness of the implementation of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Moreover, it will also be a platform for considering the question of accession the Republic of Belarus to the Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade. Norms and provisions of the above conventions are implemented to a large extent.

Main activities (are)

- Preparation of the report on the implementation of the Basel Convention on the Control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal and the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants by the Republic of Belarus;

- Conducting round tables on improving the effectiveness and coordination of measures of implementation the Basel and Stockholm conventions and considering the accession of the Republic of Belarus to the Rotterdam Convention.
